Cairn Holy Chambered Cairns is a must. Sitting on top of the hill and looking over Wigtown bay, you’ll have spectacular views over the countryside. There’s also Orchardton Tower, with its original staircase and multiple alcoves to explore.
Steeped in story and history
Dundrennan Abbey, New Abbey Corn Mill and Sweetheart Abbey. Each of these impressive abbeys has a story and a history. Like, Sweetheart Abbey, a tale of true (albeit slightly strange) love. Lady Dervorguilla was so enamoured with her husband, that when he died she had his heart embalmed and placed in a silver and ivory casket, carrying it with her wherever she went – even to her grave!
