Arrive to some homemade festive treats and decorations. Each property is tastefully decorated including a Christmas tree and lights with a wreath decoration to grace the dining table. All you need to do is arrive; we take the stress away so that you can truly relax and enjoy your festive break and appreciate home from home comforts.
There are lots of exhilarating scenic walks around Orroland estate and beyond to work off the extra unavoidable Christmas calories. So there's no need to feel guilty about enjoying the superb food and homebaking on offer from our local producers. As the evenings draw in, you'll find the log fire set ready, along with unlimited logs and central heating so you can be cosy and relax together. The sitting rooms are designed for comfort, including board games and children's toys, and we dress the dining rooms with festive treats and tasteful decorations to add to your seasonal cheer. The spacious and well kept grounds of Orroland allow for plenty of free roaming and adventure.

For the best oven-ready Christmas turkey we recommend Mill Hill Farm turkeys for a superior tasting free range bird that can be ordered before you come. Orders should be made early since they do run out, Tom is very helpful and orders can be made through his website. For other meats including cooked meats and pies; T H Carson our favourite butcher in Dalbeattie offers delivery to Orroland - find more on our convenience at Orroland page where we have also listed other suppliers and details about getting hold of great local produce.
Here are a few good places to eat out during Christmas week, those restaurants that are open for Christmas Day book up fast and many are closed on Christmas Day and Boxing Day. Some of the cafés listed feature in our hot chocolate article where we recommend the best local cafés for a decadent hot chocolate and cake, ideal when exploring our local towns of Kirkcudbright, Castle Douglas and Dalbeattie.
The Willow Tree Palnackie 01556 600 092 Local to Orroland this is a very popular and friendly cafe and restaurant offering a special pre-Christmas menu. They are open until Christmas day with extended evening times - be sure to book fast for their festive menu (booking is essential). Menus and pictures can be found on their website.
Designs Gallery & Café Castle Douglas 01556 504552. This is an atmospheric and very stylish place to visit, with a lovely gift shop. Their menu includes flavoursome soups, a varied lunch menu and fantastic homebaking. Open as usual Mon- Sat until Christmas Day and Boxing Day when they are closed.
The Granite Kitchen Dalbeattie 01556 610361 open as usual 9am - 4pm for breakfast, brunch, lunch, afternoon teas and homebaking; - closed Christmas and Boxing Day.
The Castle Restaurant Kirkcudbright 01557 330569 Open as usual Christmas week but close on Christmas Day and Boxing Day.
Abbey Cottage Tearoom New Abbey 01387 850377 Delightful tearoom, gift shop and art gallery. Please call to book early for their festive lunch (menu listed on their website).
Loch Arthur Creamery Farm Shop and Café Beeswing 01387 259669. Open as advertised until Christmas Eve when they close at 1pm. You can get some superior organic produce here to make your own Christmas meal at Orroland, and their own award-winning cheeses are delicious for the cheese board. There is a lovely gift and craft shop in which many of the crafts are hand made by the community of farmers and growers at Loch Arthur, and a welcoming café with a super lunch menu and walks around the grounds for afterwards. From Christmas Eve they are closed over Christmas, then closed for New Year and Boxing day.
The Selkirk Arms Kirkcudbright 01557 330402 This hotel has a new restaurant which is a more formal experience than their cosy and comfortable bar and bistro. Food is served from 12pm till 2pm and then again from 6pm to 9pm. Christmas and New Year - Christmas eve closed after lunch. 25th Christmas lunch uptil 4pm (Book asap for 2016, always books up fast).
Kilnford Barns Farm Shop and Restaurant Dumfries 01387 253087. Excellent local meats and produce as well as a wide selection of gifts and crafts. The restaurant serves a festive menu throughout December and amazing hot drinks including a candy cane or Black Forest hot chocolate! (open 7 days 10am - 5pm Christmas week open until 6pm) Closed Christmas Day and Boxing Day then back to normal opening. Closed 1st - 2nd Jan 2017.

Shopping in Castle Douglas is a must at Christmas time. With many local family run shops it feels friendly and welcoming and not commercial like larger towns. There are gift and craft shops for all tastes and budgets plus a host of good cafés to stop off for a hot chocolate, bakeries and butchers shops as well as organic fruit and veg shops. Castle Douglas is Dumfries and Galloway's Food Town; what better place to stock up for Christmas and Boxing Day treats! Local Church services
Visitors are most welcome in all of our surrounding Church services.
Dalbeattie Parish Church holds morning Worship followed by Tea & Coffee. Services take place on 24th December at 11.30pm and on Christmas Day. Family worship in the Church Centre at 10.00 am.
The Parish of St Andrew's and St Cuthbert's, Kirkcudbright and The Parish of St Peter's, Dalbeattie have a combined website for Catholic services.

Kirkcudbright Parish Church has a good website with details of all services in December. They hold a family service at 9.30am and the formal service at 11am most Sundays. Christmas Mass is on 24th December at 11.30pm. Christmas Day service is at 11am.

For New Year, you won't be disturbed by fireworks at Orroland, and if it's a clear night, you can gaze up and look at our incredible dark starry skies from right outside your holiday cottage or at Orroland Lodge (where you can also hear the sound of the sea in the background for added effect!)
