You can explore the peaceful private estate, including meadows, woodlands, and our rocky seashore. The views across the Solway Firth are stunning, especially at sunrise or sunset. For a relaxed start to the day, this is an ideal walk with no need to plan or pack.

In addition to the private grounds, you can follow quiet lanes and country roads straight from your cottage. One of our favourite routes is a circular walk to the historic village of Dundrennan. Along the way, you’ll pass rolling fields, stone walls, and beautiful views – all with very little traffic.
This gentle route is perfect for a morning walk or a peaceful afternoon wander. You may even spot red squirrels or deer in the hedgerows.

If you’re keen to explore further, there’s a huge variety of walks within a 30-minute drive of Orroland. For example, the rugged coastline offers dramatic clifftop paths and hidden sandy bays. Carrick Shore and Rockcliffe are popular for coastal walking, with views over the sea and chances to spot seabirds and seals.
Prefer forest trails? Head inland to Dalbeattie Forest or Kirroughtree, where waymarked paths wind through tall trees and tranquil glades. These routes are ideal for families, photographers, and nature lovers alike.

Whether you’re looking for a gentle stroll or a more adventurous hike, you’ll find plenty of choice near Orroland. Best of all, many routes are close enough that you can return to your cosy cottage and relax in comfort.
That’s the beauty of staying at our luxury holiday cottages in Dumfries and Galloway – nature is always just around the corner.
