Why Abbotsway Cottage?
The first thing you'll notice about Abbotsway is the space (or maybe the home-made cake on the kitchen table). With roomy accommodation all on one level and in two separate wings there is plenty of scope for teenagers to escape from their parents and vice versa. Here you can always find a place to relax and enjoy your surroundings.
Abbotsway Cottage is located up its own drive off the main Orroland drive and is set in its own grounds at the head of an unspoiled wooded valley. Your only neighbours are cattle and sheep enjoying the grazing in the fields opposite the cottage so you have the freedom to be yourselves without being overlooked or worrying about disturbing other people. There is always an excellent chance of seeing a wide range of wildlife and birds. The seashore is a lovely walk away - about 20 minutes - and you can drive part of the way.
This holiday cottage is particularly peaceful and private with an excellent games room making it a popular choice with families.
Abbotsway Cottage is a single storey stone-built cottage with its own out-buildings set around a fully enclosed courtyard which provides safe freedom for dogs and children. It's attractive garden has flower beds and lawns looking out over grass fields to woodland beyond. There is sturdy garden furniture and a BBQ.
You enter the cottage from the courtyard. A practical utility room serves as a laundry, dog room and cloakroom. Through here is the modern farmhouse-style kitchen with a table seating 8, generous food storage and, of course, a dishwasher. Next door is the spacious sitting room, with a large bay window ideal for watching wildlife and a wood burning stove for which we supply you with unlimited logs.
The bedrooms and bathrooms are in two separate wings, making the cottage particularly well suited to families holidaying with grandparents and children or where there are two couples holidaying together. On one side is a double bedroom (5ft bed) and single bedroom with bathroom next door. On the other side is the family room sleeping three people in single beds, with shower room adjacent.
The games room is accessed via a separate entrance in the courtyard, with a pool table and table tennis providing hours of entertainment for all ages.
The cottage prices include bed linen and towels, electricity, heating oil and logs for the wood burner. You are welcome to arrive from 4pm and we ask you to depart by 10am. Guests staying for two weeks receive a housekeeping visit mid-stay along with fresh bed linen and towels.
* Orroland is in a rural location and our broadband isn't super-fast. Expect download speeds of 2-3Mbps.
We really enjoyed our 2 week break. Unfortunately the weather was very wet, but we managed to get out and about most days. The cottage itself was well equipped and comfortable with more than enough room for 4 of us and 2 dogs. Fiona was friendly and helpful, and had prepared the cottage beautifully for our arrival, with fresh flowers and home made cake. A useful basket of information is provided with local walks and ideas for things to do. Kirkcudbright and Castle Douglas worth exploring, lots of local walking although the weather prevented us from going up Screel, which we will do next time. We also did ice skating in Dumfries and alpaca trekking near Borgue (leaflet in basket). Orroland Estate itself is great to explore. Nice walk down to the beach and we all had fun trying to row on the loch. Very safe for children and dogs.
Enjoyable stay in a beautiful cottage and setting. Problems with plumbing which were attended to promptly when reported, but temporarily, eg toilet bunged up , bath and shower slow to empty think these problems connected . Tower rail leaked. Spare toilet had a drainage smell. Rug in front of fire tatty Kitchen utensils need a sort out who needs 4 wooden spoons? and some replacing as with pans. These did not spoil our holiday but the place is not cheap and for the price charged would have expected perfection. Beautiful grounds, perfect place for peace and quiet.
“BEAUTIFUL COTTAGE- SECLUDED ESCAPE”
THE COTTAGE WAS REALLY EXCELLENT WITH COMFY BEDS AND LOVELY FURNISHINGS. THE SURROUNDINGS WERE PEACEFUL AND PRIVATE WITH SO MUCH WILD LIFE TO SEE AND HEAR. THE FACILITIES WERE GOOD AND IT WAS WELL EQUIPPED BUT WE DID HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THE ELECTRIC HOB, TOUCH PAD SYSTEM WAS HARD TO OPERATE. DOGS DO NEED TO BE ON LEAD AS THERE ARE SHEEP, LAMBS AND COWS IN FIELDS, THERE IS AN ENCLOSED COURTYARD AT REAR FOR DOGS. THE COTTAGE WAS IMMACULATE , WARM, CLEAN AND FRESH AND FIONA WAS SO HELPFUL AND FRIENDLY, IT WAS LOVELY TO HAVE TEA AND HER HOME MADE CAKE ON ARRIVAL. WOULD RECOMMEND BUT MAYBE NOT FOR ANYONE WITH MOBILITY PROBLEMS AS THE WALKS AROUND ARE NOT LEVEL AND FAIRLY HILLY IN PLACES. THE WALK TO THE SHORE LINE IS DOWNHILL AND THERE IS NO BEACH AS SUCH, JUST ROCKS, ALTHOUGH THERE IS A BEACH HUT. ALL IN ALL A LOVELY ESCAPE.
“Exceeded all expectations”
Our stay at Orroland exceeded all expectations - Abbotsway was so comfortable and well equipped, we loved every minute. Every convenience and comfort provided combined with stylish and quality furnishings and linen. Set in stunning extensive grounds providing quiet and privacy, surrounded by delightful countryside and coast. Most highly recommended!!
