Why Abbotsway Cottage?
The first thing you'll notice about Abbotsway is the space (or maybe the home-made cake on the kitchen table). With roomy accommodation all on one level and in two separate wings there is plenty of scope for teenagers to escape from their parents and vice versa. Here you can always find a place to relax and enjoy your surroundings.
Abbotsway Cottage is located up its own drive off the main Orroland drive and is set in its own grounds at the head of an unspoiled wooded valley. Your only neighbours are cattle and sheep enjoying the grazing in the fields opposite the cottage so you have the freedom to be yourselves without being overlooked or worrying about disturbing other people. There is always an excellent chance of seeing a wide range of wildlife and birds. The seashore is a lovely walk away - about 20 minutes - and you can drive part of the way.
This holiday cottage is particularly peaceful and private with an excellent games room making it a popular choice with families.
Abbotsway Cottage is a single storey stone-built cottage with its own out-buildings set around a fully enclosed courtyard which provides safe freedom for dogs and children. It's attractive garden has flower beds and lawns looking out over grass fields to woodland beyond. There is sturdy garden furniture and a BBQ.
You enter the cottage from the courtyard. A practical utility room serves as a laundry, dog room and cloakroom. Through here is the modern farmhouse-style kitchen with a table seating 8, generous food storage and, of course, a dishwasher. Next door is the spacious sitting room, with a large bay window ideal for watching wildlife and a wood burning stove for which we supply you with unlimited logs.
The bedrooms and bathrooms are in two separate wings, making the cottage particularly well suited to families holidaying with grandparents and children or where there are two couples holidaying together. On one side is a double bedroom (5ft bed) and single bedroom with bathroom next door. On the other side is the family room sleeping four in twin beds and bunks, with shower room adjacent.
The games room is accessed via a separate entrance in the courtyard, with a pool table and table tennis providing hours of entertainment for all ages.
The cottage prices include bed linen and towels, electricity, heating oil and logs for the wood burner. You are welcome to arrive from 4pm and we ask you to depart by 10am. Guests staying for two weeks receive a housekeeping visit mid-stay along with fresh bed linen and towels.
* Orroland is in a rural location and our broadband isn't super-fast. Expect download speeds of 2-3Mbps.
“Another great stay”
“An idyllic home from home”
Second time at Orroland....still as good as we remembered. Cottage is spacious, warm and stylish, but in a relaxed, informal way. Kitchen has everything you need and beds are ridiculously comfortable. Welcome drinks and tasty cake was much appreciated. Games room a huge bonus, especially on rainy days (to be expected in October). The grounds are amazing for wandering and exercising the dog...we even made it down to the shore this time via a lovely stroll through woodland. Well worth the trip - the power of the sea on the rocks was amazing. Can't rate the cottage highly enough - will certainly return again. And if they ever install a hot tub, I'd never leave! Highly recommended.
“Dog Friendly Cottage”
There are very few holiday cottages that are truly dog friendly. They claim to be but when you look further you are restricted to one or occasionally two pets. They claim to have secure gardens but when you check the photos there is a low stone wall around a rambling garden. We took our three dogs to Abbotsway Cottage at Orroland and it was perfect. The large gravelled courtyard with a small grassed area is totally secure. We have a greyhound and two terriers and all would escape if they could. There is an outhouse in the courtyard with a wooden gate where you could leave your dogs to dry off if needed. There is also a heated utility room where wets dogs could be left in more comfort. The kitchen and lounge have 'wooden' floors so no carpets to worry about. The lovely surroundings have many walks without even using your car. We enjoyed walking around the loch and going down to the rocky beach. We had lots of fun watching all the baby pheasants. The cottage itself is very well equipped with everything you would have at home. The delicious cake and pint of milk left for us on our arrival was a lovely touch. All in all a fantastic holiday in a lovely cottage.
“Wonderful location but...”
Quiet and peaceful, mostly clean and modern. All mod cons plus lovely welcome cake! WiFi not too bad (compared to other rural Scottish holidays we have had) but no mobile phone signal (thankfully!). Loved the games room. Double room smelt slightly damp, wardrobe old and musty leading to smelly clothes. Bed hot and uncomfortable for us. Would recommend new furniture in this room. Lovely sunny aspect to sitting room but window seat cushion faded, stained and ripped. Would have expected better for the price paid. A few minor issues mentioned to housekeeper at end of stay (kettle not switching off, broken washing line, blender not working) so hopefully these will be rectified for other guests. We were thrilled to have a swallows nest with (very large) chicks in the alcove next to the door - an unexpected surprise for the end of August! Overall, we had a wonderful week and look forward to returning to the area in the future.
