Why Abbotsway Cottage?

The first thing you'll notice about Abbotsway is the space (or maybe the home-made cake on the kitchen table). With roomy accommodation all on one level and in two separate wings there is plenty of scope for teenagers to escape from their parents and vice versa. Here you can always find a place to relax and enjoy your surroundings.

Abbotsway Cottage is located up its own drive off the main Orroland drive and is set in its own grounds at the head of an unspoiled wooded valley. Your only neighbours are cattle and sheep enjoying the grazing in the fields opposite the cottage so you have the freedom to be yourselves without being overlooked or worrying about disturbing other people. There is always an excellent chance of seeing a wide range of wildlife and birds. The seashore is a lovely walk away - about 20 minutes - and you can drive part of the way.

This holiday cottage is particularly peaceful and private with an excellent games room making it a popular choice with families.

Cottage details

Abbotsway Cottage is a single storey stone-built cottage with its own out-buildings set around a fully enclosed courtyard which provides safe freedom for dogs and children. It's attractive garden has flower beds and lawns looking out over grass fields to woodland beyond. There is sturdy garden furniture and a BBQ.

You enter the cottage from the courtyard. A practical utility room serves as a laundry, dog room and cloakroom. Through here is the modern farmhouse-style kitchen with a table seating 8, generous food storage and, of course, a dishwasher. Next door is the spacious sitting room, with a large bay window ideal for watching wildlife and a wood burning stove for which we supply you with unlimited logs.

The bedrooms and bathrooms are in two separate wings, making the cottage particularly well suited to families holidaying with grandparents and children or where there are two couples holidaying together. On one side is a double bedroom (5ft bed) and single bedroom with bathroom next door. On the other side is the family room sleeping four in twin beds and bunks, with shower room adjacent.

The games room is accessed via a separate entrance in the courtyard, with a pool table and table tennis providing hours of entertainment for all ages.

General information

The cottage prices include bed linen and towels, electricity, heating oil and logs for the wood burner. You are welcome to arrive from 4pm and we ask you to depart by 10am. Guests staying for two weeks receive a housekeeping visit mid-stay along with fresh bed linen and towels.

Orroland is absolutely perfect. The cottage was spacious, clean, comfortable and warm, with luxurious bathrooms and a modern, well stocked kitchen. We spent so much time in the games room playing pool and table tennis - what a bonus on a wet afternoon. The location itself was just brilliant, with gorgeous grounds to roam in, plenty of space for letting the dog run off energy and so tranquil that you couldn't help relaxing. The welcome was so friendly and helpful and the gorgeous cake on arrival was such a lovely touch. Having stayed in several luxury self catering holiday properties, my son says Orroland is by far the best. We will certainly return.

We had a fantastic week at Abbotsway Cottage. The cottage is excellently presented and equipped and the Orroland estate makes for a perfect location. There is plenty to explore in the surrounding area and seeing Ospreys at Threave and Red Kites at Laurieston was a real treat.

We spent the second week of Easter staying in Orroland in the Abbottsford Cottage. There were seven of us (four adults and three children) and there was plenty of room for all of us. Being on one level, it was quite suitable for my wife who has to use a wheelchair.. The cottage is very comfortable and very well equipped and in a very safe and secluded area. We enjoyed exploring the grounds, boating on the big pond and venturing down to the beach. Driving around the Dumfries region was a pleasure as the roads are so quiet.. John C - Gullane, East Lothian

A lovely cottage in an ideal location with some good walks fairly close by. Many thanks to Fiona for making sure everything was just perfect on our arrival. It was Easter when there, but thought it a bit pricey!

Spent an excellent weekend with another couple at Abbotsway Lodge. The Lodge was very spacious and spotlessly clean. We arrived to find the lodge warm and welcoming .Heating had been turned on prior to our arrival ,fresh flowers in a vase and a wonderful cake was left for us to enjoy - these little touches alone take the lodge to excellent. Everything had been thought about even down to a cupboard full of board games for any children visiting, and for the bigger "kids" a games room with pool table and table tennis . We would thoroughly recommend a visit.
