Why Abbotsway Cottage?

The first thing you'll notice about Abbotsway is the space (or maybe the home-made cake on the kitchen table). With roomy accommodation all on one level and in two separate wings there is plenty of scope for teenagers to escape from their parents and vice versa. Here you can always find a place to relax and enjoy your surroundings.

Abbotsway Cottage is located up its own drive off the main Orroland drive and is set in its own grounds at the head of an unspoiled wooded valley. Your only neighbours are cattle and sheep enjoying the grazing in the fields opposite the cottage so you have the freedom to be yourselves without being overlooked or worrying about disturbing other people. There is always an excellent chance of seeing a wide range of wildlife and birds. The seashore is a lovely walk away - about 20 minutes - and you can drive part of the way.

This holiday cottage is particularly peaceful and private with an excellent games room making it a popular choice with families.

Cottage details

Abbotsway Cottage is a single storey stone-built cottage with its own out-buildings set around a fully enclosed courtyard which provides safe freedom for dogs and children. It's attractive garden has flower beds and lawns looking out over grass fields to woodland beyond. There is sturdy garden furniture and a BBQ.

You enter the cottage from the courtyard. A practical utility room serves as a laundry, dog room and cloakroom. Through here is the modern farmhouse-style kitchen with a table seating 8, generous food storage and, of course, a dishwasher. Next door is the spacious sitting room, with a large bay window ideal for watching wildlife and a wood burning stove for which we supply you with unlimited logs.

The bedrooms and bathrooms are in two separate wings, making the cottage particularly well suited to families holidaying with grandparents and children or where there are two couples holidaying together. On one side is a double bedroom (5ft bed) and single bedroom with bathroom next door. On the other side is the family room sleeping four in twin beds and bunks, with shower room adjacent.

The games room is accessed via a separate entrance in the courtyard, with a pool table and table tennis providing hours of entertainment for all ages.

General information

The cottage prices include bed linen, bath towels, electricity and heating oil. You are welcome to arrive from 4pm and we ask you to depart by 10am. Guests staying for two weeks receive a housekeeping visit mid-stay along with fresh sheets and towels.

It was lovely to return after 40 years to discover the peaceful safe environment is still here. The transformation from working farm to its current beautiful haven is down to the hard work and vision of the Kennedy family. This well equipped holiday home is all you could wish for, with very helpful hosts and a scrummy lemon cake on arrival. We made the most of the extensive grounds/estate,with pretty wild flower meadow, the tump, the pond, the loch and shore.Careful planting and beautiful flower beds, including the fern garden are the result of much care and attention.A charity garden opening was scheduled for Sunday 6th July and the garden looked spectacular. Our stay was enhanced by the generosity of our hosts and the sunny weather. We plan to return before another 40 years have elapsed.Look at the photos on the Orroland website,it really is as good as it looks. Our holiday was also enjoyed by our 21 and 19 year old daughters and the games room is an added bonus.

We had a fabulous time at Abbotsway Cottage. The cottage was very clean, well equipped and ideally placed on the estate. Having our own driveway and courtyard ensured total privacy. Our only neighbours were cows and rabbits in the field opposite. We enjoyed many walks from the doorstep and having the seashore to ourselves was a real treat. The sea views were amazing, the wildlife was incredible and the weather was superb. We would love to return again, (our previous visit was 12 years ago) so hopefully it will not be a 12 year wait for the next time!

The cottage is in a stunningly beautiful location and was warm, spacious and comfortable. We particularly liked the bay window with the round table overlooking the fields and trees. Although nearly all was either good or excellent there were a few areas that could have been a bit cleaner ie kitchen cupboards and pans. The games room was very dusty. I chose this cottage because I need level access for a wheelchair/scooter and a bathroom with bath. The entrance was a bit of a problem for me with 2 smallish steps to negotiate. A ramped entrance to the utility area would help greatly. Otherwise the cottage was ideal for my needs and I would love to stay there again. Judy Erwin (guest of Cheryl Beillard)
