For adventure loving adults and children age 12+, Laggan Outdoor Activity Centre offers a wide range of outdoor activities including the lastest addition: the Worlds largest human slingshot! Located just outside Gatehouse of Fleet (35 minutes from Orroland). Laggan Outdoor AC recently won an award for best outdoor and adventure experience in Scotland. As well as one of the UK's longest Zip lines you can have a go at segways, archery, grass sledging, mountain boarding, mountain balling, clay shooting and more. They have a brand new café called Base Camp with a fantastic menu and views in the new position overlooking Mossyard Bay and the isles of Fleet. Booking is essential for all activities. They are well set up for corporate guests and group activities as well as families. Another fantastic adventure centre is Galloway Activity Centre, Loch Ken (35 minutes from Orroland). GAC offers a wide range of water-based and land-based activities which are available all year round; sailing, windsurfing, powerboating, kayaking and canoeing on the loch. There's also a wobbly waterpark for over 12s (think Total Wipeout). Their land activities include; combat laser games, archery, mountain biking, orienteering and a climbing wall. The centre is popular with adults, children, groups and corporate groups. Our children started enjoying Galloway Activity Centre aged 7 and 9; aim for 8+ to get the most out of it. If only your children are interested in activities you can leave them at the centre in the care of the instructor by arrangement. Activities must be booked in advance, the centre is open 7 days a week all year round. GAC kindly offer a 10% discount for our guests on all activity taster sessions or sailing/windsurfing courses (mention Orroland on booking). For specialised sessions in water sports, a thrilling day or half day can be had at Loch Ken Waterski & Wakeboard School. The school operates thoughout the summer season with a selection of water sports and fun activities to choose from; waterskiing, wakeboarding, banana boating - which children love, and boat rides. The waterski school was started by Roddy Clarke; Roddy has over 20 years' experience in tournament waterskiing and has skied to a high level in all disciplines. Roddy has also coached all around the globe and is very friendly and helpful in making sure you get the most fun and improvement out of your Loch Ken experience. Swimming - our favourite local pool is in Kirkcudbright

Our nearby pool is Kirkcudbright swimming pool (15 minutes from Orroland). It is a clean and welcoming family friendly pool, 20m x 8.5m. The water depth is 0.9m, graduating to maximum depth of 1.5m. There is a programme of activities such as 'fun time' when there are floats out for non-swimmers and inflatables for older children and aquacise classes for adults, otherwise the pool is generally quiet and enjoyable for adults swimming lengths. You can purchase swimming nappies, goggles and armbands at the reception as well as a small selection of swimwear. Within the pool building there is a small fitness suite and pool viewing area with good coffee and hot chocolate to sit and watch those in the water. The pool is managed by volunteers from the local community and is open all year round. The pool timetable is on the website and it is sometimes closed for short periods for school or party bookings - please check the programme before visiting.

Set in the picturesque Dee Valley near Kirkcudbright, the Tongland Family Golf Centre has stunning views surrounding their driving range and 9 hole par 3 parkland course. The driving range is a popular option for families of all abilities to spend time together having some fun hitting balls. The golf centre is open 10am - 6pm every day, all year round. The driving range is a good option for a wet day activity as it is all under cover. There is also a small café providing toasties for lunch and a selection of hot drinks and snacks. A relaxed and family friendly atmosphere, just 25 mins from Orroland.

A beautifully situated golf course and club house overlooking the artists town of Kirkcudbright and the Galloway hills. This 18-hole, par 69 (ladies 72), parkland course requires accuracy and skill over hard hitters. Guests at Orroland Holiday Cottages can get a special rate: one round for £20 (normally £28). Please book in advance, payment is taken on the day.

Barstobrick Equestrian Centre offers riding lessons and pony trekking for all abilities. The centre has many scenic trails and bridleways taking you over the rolling Galloway Hills, they can range from half hour treks to two hours. The tennis courts in Kirkcudbright are managed by Kirkcudbright tennis club. Members have regular coaching sessions and public access to the courts is possible outwith the club's timetable.
