A splendid location for your wedding in Scotland
At Orroland we specialise in small intimate weddings for up to 40 guests. Its dramatic cliff-top position, spacious and elegant rooms, and high standards of comfort and convenience make Orroland Lodge a stand-out wedding venue. It is special for the striking natural surroundings that will provide a breathtaking backdrop to your day … your favourite people, carefully laid plans, personal touches and memories … one of which will be the magical sound of the sea.
On a practical level, Dumfries and Galloway is a very good central point for bringing your wedding guests from around the UK and overseas together. It is just an hour from the M74 motorway that connects England and Scotland.
By booking the cottages in addition to Orroland Lodge you can house 27 guests at Orroland. All your guests can dine comfortably together in the dining room at Orroland Lodge.
For larger parties, there are many good B&Bs in Auchencairn, within 10 minutes of Orroland.
Our wedding was beautiful and the views from the gardens made a great setting for the photographs. Everything has been perfect.
A unique Scottish wedding
Why not combine your unique Scottish wedding with a holiday in this unspoiled corner of Dumfries and Galloway?
For the wedding itself, you can have a religious or humanist ceremony here at Orroland or a civil ceremony at one of the historic venues nearby. There are splendid ruins like Dundrennan Abbey (just 3 miles from Orroland) and MacLellan's Castle in Kirkcudbright (8 miles).
Threave House and Gardens, near Castle Douglas (12 miles) offers a variety of interesting wedding options. The garden is glorious in all seasons.
You can be married in a church or in a local registry office, at Kirkcudbright, Castle Douglas or Dalbeattie.
Gretna Green, the world's most romanticised wedding location, is only an hour's drive from Orroland.
It is easy to get married in Scotland, even if you don't live here. View the requirements and paperwork at the General Register Office for Scotland website.
If you are looking for a wedding photographer we highly recommend Duncan Ireland, a creative wedding photographer who really captures the emotion, warmth and fun of the moment in his images. See those photos at the top of this page? Those are Duncan’s. He took them at a wedding at Orroland Lodge in summer 2013 and the bride and groom kindly said we could use them to help you imagine your own wedding day at Orroland.
Catering Arrangements at Orroland
For your wedding reception the dining room at Orroland Lodge seats thirty guests at tables or you can have a buffet for 40 guests.
We work closely with an excellent catering company which provides delicious food at keen prices. Catering arrangements for your wedding reception - drinks with canapés, hot or cold buffet, sit down lunch or dinner each with waiting staff are all in good hands! Their flexible approach ensures there is a solution for all sizes of party and budget.
We can also arrange for delivery of homemade ready-cooked meals direct to your holiday door so all you have to do is heat it up. Great food by phone, such a treat! We have a great team of helpers who know the house well and can wash up, help prepare food and so on by arrangement.
A cook can normally be arranged. We are fortunate to have a friend who cooks professionally. This can be a cost-effective solution and Evie is local so you don’t need to accommodate her.
Everything has been perfect. Orroland Lodge is a wonderful setting for a wedding party. We don't want to go home.
